Alright so my old hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall a new OS on my secondary hard drive (which is now my master drive).

Reinstalled most of my programs fine, including HEM. HEM connects to my postresql db, etc but whenever I click on another tab in HEM it crashes. Same if I select something from one of its drop-down menus.

It didn't do this the first time I ran it. The first time I went to the tablescanner tab (where I could not figure out how to deactivate my old registration so I could activate it on my new hard drive) but now I can't even get to that tab. I have tried repairing HEM, and restarting my computer.

Using
1.09 beta 24
win xp pro

Uninstall Holdemmanager, restart with a fresh installation of 1.08.04 and then download and update to the latest beta again.

Any way for me to do that without losing all my preferences? I spent hours setting up my hud, etc.

Before you uninstall HM:

I want to re-install Holdem Manger without losing all of my settings and preferences. Can this be done? (http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=98)

You want to make sure you backup your Processed/Archived hand histories (typically C:\HMArchive), your entire \config folder, and your exportednotes file. I usually just copy my entire \Holdem Manager directory.

If you have any custom HUD configs, export them, just in case you need them later - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=169

Export your HM Notes - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=119

I would also make sure you manually export the database to hand history text files - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173

This helps to insure that if anything goes wrong you can manually import the exported files to rebuild if necessary.

Most of these previous things you shouldn't need for this reinstall, but it's better safe than sorry.

Vista: Turn off UAC - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=73

Turn off Windows Firewall for installing HM and PostgreSQL. Once you get those installed you can add exceptions to the firewall. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

When reinstalling HM, install the full setup, then the latest beta patch and finally your config folder if you want to use your previous hud configs.

1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and other important files mentioned earlier.
2) Uninstall HM with Revo Uninstaller
3) Go to Program Files and delete the RVG Software directory, or the equivalent for Vista
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
7) Download the latest patch HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe
8) Test if it for a while and see if it work
9) Close down Holdem Manager and copy the config folder from step 1 and copy and overwrite it to your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and import any notes and hands/database.
10) Test if it works again for a while

If you have problems or need help, please let me know.

A clean install does not crash.

When I paste my old Holdem Manager folder into it, it crashes.

When I clean install, then update it to the latest beta, then paste the HM folder into it, it crashes.

All I really can't bear redoing is my HUD setup. Which file is that?

For the Huds you should copy prefs.xml, pospref.txt and pospref2.txt in the config folder.

I hope i didn't forget anything.

That worked- thanks.

But I still can't register my tablescanner. Your website says a prompt should come up when I click on the tablescanner tab asking for my registration code, but no prompt comes up. It just says "beta will run til may 31, check the website for more details". And yes, the date on my computer is correct.

Edit: updating to the latest beta will probably fix this... my bad.

Edit again: it's telling me I have to deactivate it from my original machine before I can use it on this machine... which I can't do.

Alright, now it's back to freezing up whenever I click on any tab or drop-down item. The only things I've changed from the clean install are the three files you mentioned.

Alright I'm thinking one of the posprefs files was somehow bad. I do remember occasionally getting errors back in the day about my position preferences not being saved because posprefs or posprefs2 couldn't update or something. Wasn't a big deal to me so never paid it any mind.

Now having only changed the prefs.xml file everything seems to be working.

Nope it's crashing again.

Seems whatever I do it'll work for a few minutes after a new install, and then become unusable. After restarting it's still instantly unusable.

Please check your Microsoft .net Framework, you should have the latest 3.5 service pack installed.

If that doesn't help please schedule a remote support session with our support manager. Email fabio@holdemmanager.net, with a link to this thread and your forum name, so he can setup a Teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com) session.
