Delete RVG Software/HoldemManager/Config/prefs.xml.

If that doesn't resolve it, reinstall HoldemManager using the full installer @ http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe (don't reinstall PostgreSQL, just HoldemManager)

If that doesn't resolve it, do the same, but install it to a different folder.

You've reinstalled and are now running HM1 from a different folder??

Which Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?
Run a manual Windows Update and install ALL updates.

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select properties... then select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall for holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe, even if the firewall is turned off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily.

Make sure your video card drivers and windows auto updates are fully updated. Make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (or later for w7) installed.

Is it exactly the same message you get?

Which HM version?
Which operating system?

Please update to this version:

http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate_Release_1.13.02_05Aug2013.exe

1) Export any custom HUD configs and Copy/Paste your \Config folder before deleting any files as a backup in HUD Options - Player Preferences.
2) Delete your existing HUD Positions files, so HM will rebuild them to default. The location is in 3).
3) Delete > \Holdem Manager\Config\pospref.txt, and pospref2.txt, and pospref4.txt.
4) Start HM< Auto Import, Open the Table Manager, and test on a single cash table.

AVG blocks a lot of things it shouldn't. We do not recommend using it ever.

Many of those free Norton, Mcaffee, Comodo, Zonealarm, Avira, Avast, AVG, etc, 'internet security' bundles will not work well with holdem manager.

Please do the following steps, so we can get your computer to a state that we know will work with Holdem Manager:

1) Uninstall any 3rd party security software bundles.
2) Reboot your computer
3) Please install the latest version: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_2_Beta.exe
4) Enable Windows Firewall's recommended settings through your Control Panel, turn off Windows Defender, and add firewall exceptions for HM and SQL - http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1011/Software+Security+Problems+%28Firewall%29
5) Install Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus/malware protection and update it - Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows (http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/)

If you continue to have problems, please reproduce the problem and attach your log.txt file.

Please 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org) the file before attaching it, as sometimes text files can become corrupted as attachments.

XP:
c:\documents and settings\username\application data\HoldemManager

7/vista
c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\HoldemManager

Enable the option to see Hidden Files and Disable "Hide protected operating system files": http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/832/How+are+Hidden+Files+Viewed+in+Windows%3F+ - It should look like this: http://rvgsoftware.fileburst.com/images/hidden.jpg

Reinstall afterwards.

Followed steps 1-5. Still not working so tried to reproduce the problem. Having problems 7-zipping it. But this is what the log.txt file says

1.10.04b 23/3/12
10000000 dll hinstance 1001cdf0 hook addr
loading prefs
loading prefs 2

Also when I try to open HM2 it does not work either. It just stays on the HM screen.

Looking at the qoute from log:
a) 1.10.04 is very old HM version
b) 23/3/12 was long ago
so: you are seeing wrong log
