I installed and had everything working for the past few days after purchasing HEM.

Today was the first day since the installation that I restarted my computer and when I attempted to open up HEM this is the error message it returns.

I went to postgresql and ran the start service just in case but still the same error.

when I did the install, i uninstalled any other data bases I knew about (i had the trial version of HEM, switched to a beta app called poker hands and then reinstalled postgres for the full version of HEM with serial, fyi)

I have done and am still doing some forum searching but can't find anything yet on this particular issue.

thanks.

This usually is a firewall issue, you must configure exceptions for postgresql.exe and holdemmanager.exe.

If you have Vista, make sure that UAC is still off - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34

Then try these FAQs. If you have problems or are unsuccessful, please let me know so we can assist you remotely.

I rechecked UAC, and it's still off.

everything was working beautifully until i rebooted the computer this morning.

I could try and reinstall postgres, but wtf? reinstall it every time i reboot my computer, that would suq royally.

EDIT; working my way through the FAQ's fozzy posted now...

ok, so i did this:

All Other Windows Operating Systems

1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

2. Scroll to PostgreSQL Database Server and make sure it’s started and if not, right click on PostgreSQL Database Server and choose start as seen below and try again.

Note: If it's already started then stop the service and restart it.

when i got to the services screen, postgres was not running... so i tried to restart it and it gave me an error message that it started and stopped because it wasn't in use.

so i tried getting HEM to the connect to db screen and then start postgres, but that just locked up HEM

any ideas?

got exactly the same problem. Did the same things as the original poster and it worked for 1 time. Now I get the same error over and over.

UAC is off
Deleted the .pid file

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Make sure windows is fully updated until 'No New Important Updates are Found' (this may require multiple restarts), including Internet Explorer (even if you use a different web browser) and change your Windows Control Panel > Regional Settings Format to English (USA).

Hi Fozzy,
I walked trough the FAQ and I think it works now. This is what I did:
-latest HM update
-pc restart
(no result yet)
-UAC off
-delete pid-file
-Deleted Avira
-pc restart
(It started but HM selected automatically a different database. When I tried to select the right DB I had the same error)
-Delete other databases
-pc restart
-HM started and worked!

But I think I have a workaround now:
Once started HM and tried to open it in the same session again (without restarting the pc, and sleep mode doesnt count) I get this error. So I can only open it one time when my PC is on. Otherwise I have to restart it.

When this workaround doesnt work anymore I will contact you.

When this no longer works, and a new database has the same problems, you will probably want to reinstall postgresql.
