I just imported 150000 hands into HEM, everything was working fine. My laptop had to be rebooted and now HEM won't open.

I get this message.

"A connection to postgreSQL could not be made, do you want HEM to start the service"

I went here and did the open ports of the firewall and allowed hem but it still won't start

I also tried where it says to

"Right click on PostgreSQL Database Sever and choose Properties"

and restarted in the local account setting. The instructions told me to save my paswords and logon info.

I know the logon is .\postgres
but what is the password?

When I set this up, I just used the default settings.

A quick question on step 5

4. Click on the Log On tab. Copy the username in the This Account field and paste it into Notepad in case you need to use it again. Make sure you know your password as well.

5. Select Local System Account and then click Apply then OK.

6. Restart your PC and see if you still get the error.
If at this stage the problem persists, please try restarting. If that fails, it's probably something more serious. Please visit the postgreSQL forums to see if they can offer alternative advice.

On step 5 you select local sytem account, when do you need to input the login/password again? It won't highlight until you click on the "this account" radio button

I followed this thread and got this error when trying to follow FAQ 177 on the final install.

the specified data directory is not empty

if you have an existing database with the same major version number, you do not need to initialize a database cluster. if you have an existing database with a different major version you need to backup your old database and create a new one.

This means that the installation found an existing data folder.

Its explained in the FAQ you mentioned: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177

Uncheck "Initialize cluster" and complete the installation.
