I've been using HEM for a month now with no problems, and love it. Saturday though, I had some problems with some computer virus or trojans or something, so over the weekend I've been running virus scans, spyware scans, etc, trying to find everything that shouldn't be there, that was causing problems and getting rid of them, playing with security settings, etc. Today my computer seems to be back to normal (fingers crossed), so I opened full tilt to start playing again (changed my login password there too just in case).

The first couple of times I tried to open HEM, a couple different errors and things about not being able to connect and such came up. Each time was a different message for about 3 or 4 attempts. I'd click OK and it would shutdown or freeze, and I'd shut it down. Now it is consistent though. First when HEM tries to initialize, it says:

The following error occurred when trying to open the database: Failed to establish a connection to 127.0.0.1.

I click OK, and the HEM screen for auto-importing pops up for just a split second, then closes immediately. After that, the "connect to PostgreSQL" screen comes up, the one that came up in the initial setup of HEM when I started with it a month ago. The fields are filled in, and I click the "connect" button. Then it gives me a much longer error message, says:

Connection Error: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. Npgsql.Npgsql Exception: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

After that it lists about 10 different lines of stuff, most that say "connectorpool" and a lot of "Npgsql.npgsql" things.

The problem is clearly connected to the greater computer problems of the weekend, maybe files were messed up from the virus, or maybe the changes in security features I made are affecting it, I'm not really sure. Any thoughts on what to do?

Firstly, I would export and backup my database via text files - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173

Then i would try these steps:

http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34

http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If none of that works, i would try a clean install of SQL and then reimport my HH files...

Make sure you have the latest version beta 23a from the link in my signature also.

Still no luck.

First I could not do this:

Firstly, I would export and backup my database via text files - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afm...aspx?faqid=173, as I can't get into HEM to begin with.

Then step 1:

http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afm....aspx?faqid=34

All of these were already done, UAC was already off.

Step 2:

http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afm...aspx?faqid=171

I disabled Windows Firewall and Windows Defender, and I uninstalled Spybot. I did not want to uninstall McAfee, as I don't know how to get it back if I do, and since this whole problem is stemmed from a virus, there's no way I'm getting rid of that. I did disable it's features, and also made the firewall exceptions you explained for Windows Firewall in the McAfee Firewall as well.

I did not try this:
http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=8261, as most of these directions were the same as Step 2, and I had already taken an hour to do those to no avail.

But, I even tried this:

If none of that works, i would try a clean install of SQL and then reimport my HH files...

And nothing new happened, I'm still right where I started. Should I maybe just totally re-install HEM too?

C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe

Connect > Export Hands

For the connection issues please email fabio@holdemmanager.net, with a link to this thread, and your forum name, so you can schedule a Teamviewer session. Download and install the Teamviewer software using all the default settings.

I cannot connect even getting to the control panel that way. It gives me the same error message I mentioned here in the OP

I've also just sent the email to Fabio. Is this Teamviewer software something on the HEM website, or will Fabio direct me how to download it?

You can install the full version or the quick support version as well. Then it's quite simple. You will email the ID/Password at your scheduled time, he will connect to teamviewer and open a chat window w/in teamviewer.
