Unable to connect to Postgres

I downloaded the Holdem Manager trial version and Postgres.sql. Postgres installation was successful, but when I try to "Connect to Postgres.SQL" a popup window appears saying, "A connection to Postgres could not be made....". I have tried to connect using the "postgrespass" password as well as the password I selected during setup. Login name is the default "postgres".

Platform is Windows Vista with UAC turned off.

Disable your firewall and try againg.

Check whether your postgresql service is running and try to connect via pgadmin.
