I purchased HM yesterday and it ran well on the first day. Today I am having the following problem which preventing HM launching.

"THe following error ocurred when trying to open the database. Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."

I have tried a number of suggestions that i have found in the FAQs ond the forum without success.

OS - Vista
UAC off
HM running as administrator
Norton 360 AV & firewall (tried it disabled and on)

HM ran fine with Norton at first so i don't think that it is the firewall or AV. I don't think I am willing to fully uninstall AV or firewall thats just asking for trouble eventually.

PLease can you help

Many thanks in advance.

Uninstall Norton completely, and turn off Windows Firewall, and Windows Defender. After you get HM working you can put your security software back a piece at a time, and test HM each step of the way to see where the conflict is. Setting Firewall exceptions is a key step when you get there.

FWIW, I use Avira anti-virus, and Comodo Firewall (only), both of which are free and always test very good in the comparisons.

Let me know if any of those help, and we will take it from there.

Thanks for your reply.

HM ran ok with Norton - why would this be the reason why its not working now?

The 2nd link you provided provides a link to Absolute FAQ which requires a username and password and no apparent way to register - sigh. Is it always so tricky?

It's just a possible conflict, and is something I do every time I help someone get HM working again.

That shouldn't be happening, and it doesn't for me now when I click it, but I have seen it happen before.

You can search the main FAQs - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx

For keyword: connect

The first 2 results should be FAQ 34 and 171.

If you are still having problems getting connected, please email me at fozzy@holdemmanager.net, with a link to this thread, and your forum name, so we can schedule a Teamviewer session. Download and install the www.Teamviewer.com software using all the default settings.

Thanks it working fine now.

FYI it was the 3rd thread from PCP Poker that had the solution.

Thanks for your help, hopefully sorted now
