I have an old desktop with XP, and i have just bought a new laptop with VISTA.

I have 2 questions:

1:
Is there any problems in restoring a database to a laptop using VISTA, from a backup originating from a desktop using XP ?

2:
How do i go about it ?

I have an external harddrive. Can i just make a backup "desktop => external harddrive" and then make a restore "external harddrive => laptop" ?

1. if you use the same postgresql version you will have no problems but just for safety you should export and save all your handhistory files: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173

and for the rest see: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=101

Great, so i could actually do the hole thing via export/import the following way ?

Export hands from "old database desktop => external harddrive", make a new database on laptop, and import hands from "external harddrive => new database laptop"

Yes. That is how I have usually done it in the past.

The other options are a backup/restore, or to copy the \data folder and install over it without initializing the DB cluster. The latter method is probably the fastest, but if you only have a 100k hand DB or similar, the importing method is not a very long process.
