Hello!

Can anybody help me out with this problem.

I just bought a new computer and it's operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium Edition

I have both service pack 1 and 2 installed.

My anti-virus software is F-secure

So things that I have tried to do so far:

1. I disable UAC.

2. I also disable firewall and virus protection when I tried to install Postgres.

3. I run command prompt as "administrator" and that way I opened postgresgl-8.3.msi file.

Everything goes ok until installation is in phase "starting services" and I get this message:

"Service 'PostgreSQL Database Server 8.3' (pgsql-8.3) failed to start. verify that you have sufficient priviliges to start system services."

So what now?

F-Secure and Postgresql unfortunately have a lot of problems with each other.
The easiest would be to completely uninstall F-Secure and use different products.

Which anti-virus software should I use then?

I use the free version of Avira and I use Comodo for my firewall.

I had the same problem and I uninstalled f-secure, but it still won't work. Now the installation jacks while "activating produceral languages". I have now used 5 days while trying to get this program working.

If you have Vista, please verify that UAC is still off. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73. If it is on, please turn it off and reboot.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe.

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) ... same as firewall instructions above.
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help at all we may want to schedule a remote support session to assist you.

Please email me at fozzy@holdemmanager.net, with a link to this thread, and your forum name, so we can schedule a Teamviewer session. Download and install the www.Teamviewer.com Quick Support version.

I have 2 scheduled for this evening, so I won't be able to fit you in til after those are completed. With any luck I should be done by 9:30 or 10pm EST this evening. I should be able to squeeze you in at that time if all goes according to plan with my earlier sessions. Otherwise we can do it early tomorrow evening, around 6pm EST.
