Any ideas on why this doesn't work? When I hit connect it says "A connection to postregsql cannot be made."

I am completely on tilt. Why did you use a database that is so fucking hard to run? I have been using Holdem Manager on my laptop for some time, with only minor problems -- always have to start the service then connect -- but today it simply will not work. Works fine on my PC (XP) but not on my lappy (Vista). No idea how to fix it. Please don't tell me I have to switch off my firewall and AV. I did that. Still no joy. And guys, if your program doesn't work without switching my goddamn firewall then it's useless.

I am stuck at the Database Control Panel. It resolutely refuses to connect to my database. It asks me to start the service, I say yes. Then I click connect again. In the past, it started. Now it doesn't. I get the same thing. Can't start the service. WTF. I try to connect through pgAdmin and get this:

Server doesn't listen
The server doesn't accept connections: the connection library reports
could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "127.0.0.1" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432?

It's not a firewall thing. I switched it off and it still didn't work. Worked fine till this afternoon. I hate this program. Never had a single issue with Pokertracker and Holdem Manager has been nothing but trouble.

@Jerry, restart your computer. Can you connect to your database via pgadmin? Deactivate your firewall / spyware software. If it doesn't help please give more details about your system.

@drzen: please don't hijack other threads. Pokertracker and Holdemmanager use the same Postgresql Server so it has nothing to do with it.
Switching off the firewall is just a test. If it then works you can configure exceptions for Postgresql and Holdemmanager.
Please start the dbcontrolpanel.exe as administrator to see if it makes a difference.

wat
how can I be "hijacking a thread"? What does it matter where I post it? Anyway, I fixed the problem so that it's back to sucking only as much as previously.

I figured it out myself. I had to restart the service. Which, by the way, you should describe how to do. Most people don't know how to do it.

It was working great...until about 30 minutes ago.

My new problem is while on AutoImport it says:

this error is almost always antivirus/firewall related, please add HoldemManager and PostgreSQL to the exception list
