I get to the 'initialize database cluster' part of the installation and fill in everything exactly as the setup guide tells me. I then press next and get this error:

"The specified data directory is not empty.

If you have an existing database with the same major version number, you do not need to initialize a database cluster.
If you have an existing database with a different major version you need to backup your old database and create a new one."

Only option is pressing OK. Don't know what to do.

You had Postgresql previously installed. Search for this installation via windows explorer and delete it.

I did that already.

the search or the delete?

I uninstalled it yesterday, when I originally had problems and vista told me to uninstall it.

And did you delete the postgresql\data folder? Because this is the cluster the installation is talking about.
Vista would never tell you to uninstall postgresql or at least it would make no sense.

When I initially tried installing it, it told me that it was already installed and that to install it again I would need to uninstall the one that is already installed.

I'm not sure if I deleted that folder, where would it be located?

c:\program files\postgresql\data
or sth. like that.

deleting that folder did the trick
