different background color for certain stats

Hello
I thought this was possible, correct me if i am wrong.
I want to a certain row of stats and some other loose stats in my 5x4 stats hud to have a different background color than the usual black. When I click the appareance menu there is a choice of alternative color... is this what I need?
And how do i make sure a stat gets this background color in the hud?

hud options--> player preferences--> appearance tab-->
you can only change the background color for the entire HUD.

It's not possible to change the background color of individual stats / rows of stats / or a specific HUD panel.
