Hi, I have read the sticky post but I still cannot get Holdem Manager to connect to PostgreSQL. I think I am setting it up wrong but hopefully someone can advise as this is getting frustrating and I'm thinking about just chucking it in and trying to get my $ back.

When I go to http://www.holdemmanager.net/setup/postgresSql.html it advises to only change the info in red on the 'Initialize Database Cluster' screen yet when you go to the FAQ sections http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=176 it says to leave everything as it is and just enter the password? Which is correct?

FYI I live in England so it pulls through a different encoding reference to that on the installation page.

Also, and I'm probably being stupid now but it never lets me just choose 'postgres' on the 'Service Configuration' page. If I have to use say 'postgresuser' do I type this in on the next screen as the 'superuser name'?

Any help appreciated as this is starting to get frustrating. Are the other trackers just as hard to install?

Only some peoples have problems with the postgresql installation and its the same for every tracker that uses postgresql.

During the installation a windows user for administration of the database server is created. This user usually is postgres. If this user already exists there is a workaround to create "postgresuser" instead.

This user you have to use for defining the database connection in the Holdemmanager configuration.

If would be very helpful if you could give us some details about your problem. Is your postgresql service running?

I managed to get postgresql installed and running but I could not manage to get it connected to holdem manager. I was wondering if I had installed it incorrectly since one page advises to change the Encoding Server & Client to SQL_ASCII but the FAQ advises to leave the settings as is i.e as what pulls through, but mine does not pull through the SQL_ASCII references. Therefore I am unsure what I should be putting in these fields.

I am going to uninstall postgresql after work today and then start it again from scratch. It would be helpful to know which is correct. Also, if I uninstall the software and then download it again I have to create a new Account Name each time, does this sound correct?

Finally I'm not sure about the superuser name. Should this be amended to whatever I have to use as my account name?

Apologies for the tone of my initial email, I am most grateful for the help.
Unfortunately my IT knowledge is not the strongest (I basically use my PC for internet, poker and MS type work) so terminology and things like disabling programmes/changing authorisation levels etc etc are not immediately obvious to me.

Thanks again,
Grant

The coding of the database has nothing to do with the connection problem. If this is wrong the problems will come later.

When your postgresql service is up and running and HM can't connect its normally a firewall issue. Your firewall / spyware software must be configured with exceptions for postgresql and Holdemmanager.

When you uninstall postgresql make sure you delete the whole folder postgresql and the postgres user (in a command box type net user postgres /delete).

I don't know which account you mean for the installation. Just use for postgresql: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/postgresql.zip
for holdemmanager http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
and when its running update to the latest beta: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

The account you should use for the new installation is postgres.

The installation guide for Postgresql: http://www.holdemmanager.net/setup/postgresSql.html

Please come back if you need further assistance.

Hi, I'm sorry but I'm with Thoewalcott on the other thread. I just cannot get this to work. I mean I use Vista ,which is by far and away the most common operating system if your PC was bought in the last couple of years, yet the software cannot be configured to work in harmony with it? I have tried multiple times to get this working but with no success whatsoever. Also, the idea of disabling all the security/firewalls on my PC in order to let it run seems absurd. I mean I do actually want to use the software to play poker and gamble and I do have quite a bit of money in my poker accounts, why would I want to disable all my security?

If its possible to arrange a remote session for someone else over at holdemmanager to have a go I'll be willing to try it but I'm pretty much done.

If this isn't possible then just let me know how I can un-register and get my payment back.

Thanks for your help anyways.

You only have to disable your firewall for the instlal process. Once installed you can easily configure exceptions in your firewall. UAC needs to be off, and that is a pretty universal necessity for any of these types of programs, as well as many other non-poker apps. Poker Tracker 3 also requires that you disable UAC.

To schedule a remote support session, please email fabio@holdemmanager.net, with a link to this thread, and your forum name, so you can schedule a Teamviewer (http://www.teamviewer.com) session. Download and install the Teamviewer software using all the default settings.

Hi, I'd just like to say that although the software (PostgreSQL) gave me nighmares the support to help resolve the problem has been great.

I asked for a remote session with Fabio and within 1 day we had arranged a time and he had solved all the problems. Very friendly and great service so thanks to all involved.

On the old site there was a pic-by-pic, step-by-step install guide which was perfect. Can't find it anywhere now and I need it cause the combo install won't work on my laptop.

what exactly is wrong when installing Postgre?
disable antivirus / firewall, run as admin,
if you use Vista or Win7, see more here FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: XP/Vista/Windows 7 Notes (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/categories/Frequently+Asked+Questions/Getting+Started/XP%7B47%7DVista%7B47%7DWindows+7+Notes/)

I have Windows Vista. Tried to disable firewall. Downloaded all the possible installation packages and still I just can't get it done. Really pissed off right now :)
I cant even open Holdem Manager because it just opens up a window that says that there is something wrong with my registeration but it hasn't even asked my serial-key yet? So sick.

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select properties... then select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. If you have Vista and the checkboxes are greyed out and you can't select it, please turn UAC on, reboot, and then set the files to run as administrator.

Next, we need to enable the option to see Hidden Files: How to see hidden files in Windows (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html)
Problems Registering Holdem Manager:

1. Delete C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\holdemmanager.exe.ldat (Program Files (x86) if you have the 64bit version)

2. Delete C:\ProgramData\XHEO INC\SharedLicenses\HoldemManager.lic (XP Users can find the file at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\AppData\XHEO INC\SharedLicenses\HoldemManager.lic)

If that doesnt work please try this:

1. Create a new text document in the Config folder and name it LicDebug.txt
2. Open HM and register
3. Close HM and delete the LicDebug.txt file
