View Full Version : Reformatting OS - How do I save my HEM and Database?

This has potential to be quite long so I'l be as brief as I can.

Having glitches with my laptop, so gonna reformat using OS disk to get everything back to normal.

I knew I had to move my HEM files etc before doing this, so I copied and pasted as many files that were movable from my C drive to my E Drive (including HEM stuff).

Haven't yet reformatted, but I could not re-open HEM (probs because 2 copies of HEM were on my system).

Performed system restore, can now start up HEM, but 'Start Auto Import' results in "couldn't find cards0.png" and "couldn't find images\smallicons.png", clicking 'Reports' results in "No reports have been configured" and selecting my normal Alias and clicking 'refresh' results in a constant loading cursor symbol.

Obv, I've messed up in moving my HEM to a backup location.

So:

A) If it's worth it, what should I do to fix the issue back to the way that it was before I started messing with it and moving files (basically how do I get 'back to normal')

B) What is the best way I can reformat my computer (using an OS disk) whilst not whiping my HEM software and subsequent database.

Thank you in advance. Much appreciate any advice you guys can give me.

Kind regards,

DR

If none of that helps, I would suggest a clean reinstall:
http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/126/Using+Revo+Uninstaller+
1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and any other important files.

2) Uninstall HM with Revo Uninstaller Pro - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs easily (http://www.revouninstaller.com) using the Deep setting. You do not need to uninstall PostgreSQL.

3) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, remove any registry entries and leftover files.

4) Reboot your computer

5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe. You should un-check the PostgreSQL Option when running the combo installer.

6) Test if it for a while and see if it works

If youre doing a clean reinstall or moving HM to a new computer you should consider the following.

We have a backup and restore feature within Holdem Manager that makes it easy for you to backup all your settings, hand histories and files.

This is a new feature and there are some compatibility issues with it so if you have any problems you can do this manually by following the instructions below:

So I only need to back up the config folder? I thought I'd have to back up everything. How do I know what an "important" file is? I assume if there aren't too many of these important files they cud easily fit on a usb drive?

You can use built-in HM feature
menu File - backup
It will save all settings etc.
And if you want - even can do database backup.
When you install HM on new system - use the same menu, but select Restore and point to backup file.
