Hi there! I have a problem starting the database for HM2. HM works fine and connects all the time. But HM2 stops wen:
Creating Database, an error window pops up an say:

"Holdem Manager cannot connect to the PostgreSQL Database. This can be cause by firewall or Windows update. Please see this FAQ for a solution."

I read the suggested solutions but all have to do with the original HM which is working fine, I am scare to damage the HM trying to fix the HM2.
Please if someone can explain how to do it i will appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi! Thanks for replay.
HM2 connect to Server 127.0.0.1
Port 5432
username:.....
password:......
it says:
Success. Please click Next to continue
I press Next and another window appears, it says:
SELECT DATABASE
Create a new HM@ database with this name
Holdem Manager2
Use default database parent folder location
Database parent folder
C:\User\Itork\AppData\Roaming
Then I press Next
Another window says

Ready to start
Click Finish to start Holdem Manager 2
*Create database Holdem Manager2
It may take a few seconds to create your database. Please be patient.
I click Finish
A small window appear says
Create database
Creating database "holdem Manager2"
Work in progress. Please stand by...

Instantly an error window will appear that says
Database error
Holdem manager cannot connect to the PostgreSQL Database. this can be caused by firewall or Windows update; Please see this FAQ for a solution.

So it get stuck there.

Answering your question, I don really know how to check the ip, port, username, password in the original HM, But I think the sist4em goes trough that stage successfully. I try to put windows fire wall off but still the same.

I am doing somthing wrong? Please help sins I not very good st solving this problems.
Thanks.

Make sure Windows is fully updated.

What is your firewall and antivirus? Any other security software?

itocesana

I only have Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows 7 is up to date.
But remember that HM is connecting OK, so should HM2 connect too?

So you're using Windows 7 firewall? It's separate from MSE - MSE is antivirus.

Add postgresql, holdemmanager.exe and hudfuncapps.exe to your firewall exception list.

pg_ctl.exe and postgres.exe in postgresql/bin folder
AND - the whole folder postgresql/data

hello,
i have absolutely the same problem.

win 7 (uptodate), hem is working correctly, hem2 - i get the same error, but i know postgresql login and password is correct.

i use comodo firewall and avast antivirus, but even if i shut them down and turn off win 7 integrated firewall problem remains same

Yeah!! I give up trying. Im using HEM at the moment. May be they should find the way to be more user friendly.

Do you have a 2.0 DB set up already? You can find the port/ip address/info in the C:\Program Files (x86)\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\DBControlPanel.exe

The issue is, it's not connecting to postgres. We need to know what the connection information is on both to make sure it's the same. You also shouldn't use 2 firewalls at the same time, it causes a lot of trouble. Pick one and use it.

which Postgres is installed? full version #
and where it is installed - in default paths? Or custom? If custom - post paths to postgres/bin folder and postgres/data folder
And: do you have PT3 installed on PC? Or Elephant?
Is your postgres user/password different from default postgres/postgrespass?
Then please open CMD and type there
net user
then press Enter
and post screen with result

postges 8.3 i have installed, and i'm pretty sure it's fullversion and i'ts installed in default path.

i do have elephant installed

and progress user/password are diffrent from default postgres/postgrespass.

i've also incluided a picture of how the setup wizard of HM2 recognizes he user/pass that i use.

Try to do this without Teamviewer:

A. If Posgres user is non-default, there must be a Database (any), named exactly as this user.
B. For HM2 can create databases, anyway we need user/role "postgres"
To do this:
1. Run PGAdmin, connect to server
2. Right-click on Databases - Create new DB
3. In window opened we nave to enter database name equal to postgres user name. If user is named "poker" - DB name have to be "poker". If user is names "elephant", DB name have to be "elephant". Etc.
4. Click on Plus in Login roles and check if there is user "postgres"
If not exists: right-click Login Roles - New login role,
set field Role name as "postgres" (without quotes), set Connection limit as "-1" (also without qoutes)
then set all flags in Role privileges Tab (see picture for PG9, in PG8 these flags are on first tab)

Thank you so much assistance, for others who have had the same problem was due to the fact that I had only installed the update

Sarek

Due to "only update" you had Stattrigger error message.
All other is Postgres-related.

I just bought HM a while back and barely used it. I wanted to start with it
now and then I saw this. Is HM2 an update or actually new software you have to
buy again?
If that's the case than i'm fucked beyond believe.

Sarek

This is NEW software. If you purchased HM1 after May, 1, 2011 - you will get HM2 for free.
All other pricing and discounts policy is not determined yet.

Yeah I haven't used HM1 yet, but bought it a while ago. Although time flies i'm sure I bought it after May, 1, 2011. How can I check this to be sure?

Gracias, I got it for free yeah...
Since I don't know how to use HM1 properly, could that be a problem with using HM2.
Is there already a tutorial out that explains all the basics of HM2?
Much appreciated, thank you.

Ok guys, I'm really getting angry with this. Before the installation of Note caddy, Hm2 seemed to work ok, I had some importing issues, but that another thing. So after notecaddy, importing new hands and the Hud works for awhile ok...and then suddenly the same msg appears:
"Holdem Manager cannot connect to the PostgreSQL Database. This can be cause by firewall or Windows update. Please see this FAQ for a solution."

Any ideas? Done the upgrade, firewall is ok...dont know whatelse to do...
