I'm about to build a new system with a solid state hard drive and i'm wondering if there any particular things i should do when installing postgres and hem given that SSD space is at a premium.
Also are there any things i can do maintenance wise aside from purging hands and doing a vacuum to keep the HEM and Postgres installations as small as possible as well as keeping my database as small as possible.
Thanks
Sarek

Thanks for getting back to me, i've started ploughing my way through that thread you linked.
I have installed HEM and Postgres on my SSD and am now importing about 1 million hands into a newly created DB. It is currently importing at a speed of about 260 hands p/s. Does that sound about right?
Thanks

260 hands/s is really fast.
Do you also have Windows on the SSD?

(editing the postgresql.config file, assigning more RAM to PostgreSQL
also make sure the Firewall / Antivirus program is NOT monitoring the PostgreSQL server)

Yeah OS is on the SSD.
I use the W7 built in firewall and MS Security Essentials. I dont suppose you know how i configure them to leave PostgreSQL alone?
Thanks
