Hello.

I had about 7kk hands in my database and my HEM was getting slow and it took a whole bunch of space so i purged the hands that i wasn't involved in. I have ~60k players in my database and I was wondering, is it possible to export the database without the actual hands and preserve other player stats?

I need to re-install Windows really bad and don't want to loose the player stats and notes I have on them.

All the tutorials I've read in the FAQ involves exporting HH's and re-importing them again. Is there a way to export the database through PSQL?

EDIT: I found in pgAdmin3 that you can backup any database to a file and then restore it. Can I backup my DB that way and after i re-install Windows, restore it from the backup file and make HEM use that DB? Will it have all the hands I haven't purged yet and all the player stats and notes on it?

There are two types of purges (delete)

-options--> settings--> purge hands (will delete handhistory, hand from graph, $Won from sessions, etc. everything, so hand won't be used anymore for stats)
-options--> settings--> observed HH configuration--> purge hands--> will delete the handhistory and therefore the ability to replay the hand, but the hand will still be used for the stats, graph, $Won from sessions and for the HUD.

The disadvantage of observed HH configuration--> purge hands is, it won't really free up a lot of diskspace. Maybe only 10-20% of the database size.

After purging hands you need to vacuum the database in pgadminIII to free up the diskspace.

Backup/Restoring an entire database (including the notes), read: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/72/Backup%26RestoreDatabase

Note: do ALSO backup the original handhistory files, in case you DO need to reimport them into a new database in the future. And backup your NOTES.
