View Full Version : Endless problems re-installing PostgreSQL + HEM1

Hi,

I had endless problems running HEM1 so I thought I'd just uninstall everything and start over. I'm running Windows Vista and have been successfully using HEM1 for years.

I removed HEM1 and PSQL + remaining PSQL folders. I am trying to install HEM 1.12.01 + the built-in PSQL. First of all, under Select Components, it says PostgreSQL (already installed). When I try to install both components, towards the end of the process I get:

and then I'm forced to cancel the installer.

What is going on here? I'm in my 4th hour of screwing around with this stuff now and starting to really get mad. I was trying to run HEM2 earlier as well but had similar PSQL problems. Please give me all the steps and options required so I don't have to spend an entire day on this.

Now I took the advice in this thread http://forums.holdemmanager.com/manager-bugs/117861-error-starting-service-pgsql-8-3-hem2.html

and tried to instal PSQL 8.2 to port 5433... and it worked fine. But now, upon trying to restore my old database, I get this

So I do have HEM running with PSQL 8.2 on port 5433 but I need to restore my backed up DB... it's going to take days to re-import all my archived and datamined hands...

You can only restore a 8.2 or earlier backup with a 8.2 postgresql installation.

OK. I just formatted my PC. I installed HEM1 + the built-in PSQL which is v8.4. Is there a trick to rolling it back to v8.2 now? I want to make sure I do every step perfectly from here out.

BTW I'm talking about a HEM backup/restore here.

And which exact version of PSQL do I need? Would you link me plz?

Is 8.4 now running? If it is, restore your database: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/72/Backup%26RestoreDatabase

If 8.4 won't run, install SQL 8.2 to port 5433: PostgreSQL: Choose a Mirror (http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/download/mirrors-ftp/binary/v8.2.21/win32/postgresql-8.2.21-1.zip)
And reimport your handhistories into a new database.

New problems!

I accidentally used an old serial code to register my HEM. Now it seems the code is stuck and preventing me from running HEM at all. I took this advice:

The problem is probably that your old HM key is still stuck in the installation.
Please try the following:
1. Create a new text document in the Config folder and name it LicDebug.txt

but it makes no difference. I'm running a formatted computer with Windows 7 Ultimate. SQL 8.2 is loaded.

*** When I try and create a new document in the Config folder, it only allows me to create a new folder. It doesn't even let me create a new TXT file. I need to create LicDebug.txt on the desktop and then paste it into Config. Also I am denied from modifying this LicDebug.txt file within Config. It seems to default to Read-Only. Is this the problem?

To be clear:

I run HEM as admin,
Activate online now.
PC #1 (1)
Success. Select OK to continue.
A valid license could not be obtained.

I've been on this for hours and hours now... could I please get a Teamviewer going? It would probably take like 5 minutes for someone to straighten this all out in one shot. Thanks

You can only restore a 8.2 or earlier backup with a 8.2 postgresql installation.

I don't remember the version of SQL but I think it was very old. I have 8.2 installed on my 2nd PC now, but I still get the same "could not find directory" problem. My HH's didn't seem to get copied over when I backed up my hard drive! All I have left is my HEM-backed up DB which I'm trying desperately to restore here.

On my 1st computer, I still have the serial key problem.

The "could not find directory" problem is caused by your different postgresql installations. The restore option tries to run a command which is not where it is expected. In the message window of the restore you should see the whole command. Search for the command file (probably pg_restore) in the postgresql 8.2 subfolders and run it manually via command line.

The key on your 1st computer is invalid - are you sure you are using the right one? If you ever bought an upgrade you need to use the new key. I edited the key from your post.

Enabling you to enter the correct key:

Problems Registering Holdem Manager:

Delete C:\ProgramData\XHEO INC\SharedLicenses\HoldemManager.lic (XP Users can find the file at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\AppData\XHEO INC\SharedLicenses\HoldemManager.lic)

This is a hidden SYSTEM file. (not just a regular hidden file)


Also please try this:

1. Create a new text document in the Config folder and name it LicDebug
2. Open HM and register
3. Close HM and delete the LicDebug.txt file

The key on your 1st computer is invalid - are you sure you are using the right one? If you ever bought an upgrade you need to use the new key. I edited the key from your post.

Thanks for the edit. No it's not the right one... that was a key from before I upgraded to Omaha+NLHE HEM.

The procedure worked, except I got this message, and then a fatal HEM message

HoldemManager

DeployLX Licensing Developer Mode is enabled. Be sure to disable this feature before releasing your assembly.
