I have the most recent version of HEM, I just downloaded it and installed right now and the problem still persists. When I open HEM i receive an error message that says "The following error occurred when trying to open the database: Failed to establish a connection '127.0.0.1'"

I have no idea what means, so it gives me an option to proceed and click OK. Then it shows the "connect to prostgreSQL screen and shows a server name, port number, login name and password. I am a bit confused here and have zero idea how to fix this. I went as far as to redownload the update and rebooted the comp twice and I still receive the same error message. I cannot get HEM to start up at all.

When i press connect on that screen it then saysd it couldnt make a connection to Postgre and then tries to start the HEM service, then obviously it says it could not start the service and to try again.

How can I fix this? Or I have even scheduled a teamviewer session in the past when one of the HEM support guys fixes it for me.

Let me know, thanks

Turn on the secondary Logon. The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Starting it once should insure it works in the future also.

Try installing PostgreSQL manually. Use PostgreSQL: Choose a Mirror (http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/download/mirrors-ftp/binary/v8.2.21/win32/postgresql-8.2.21-1.zip) and install it port 5433.

Password: postgrespass

Delete the postgres user first, if it doesn't accept that password:
click on Start and go to Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt

* If you are on Vista, rightclick and choose "Run as Administrator".

A black box should appear. Type 'net user postgres /delete' (without the quotes) and press enter.

The user is now deleted and you can (re)install PostgreSQL.

this is more confusing to me. i dont understand what it is you're asking me to do exactly. I am using Vista. Do i just ignore the top hhalf of it and just run it as adminstrator? I cant seem to get this to work.. i'm lost

Only install HoldemManager (without PostgreSQL) using the full installer @ http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/Holdem_Manager_Setup.exe

If you use Vista turn off User Account Control and reboot: Turn off User Account Control: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/30/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/
And make sure Vista is updated to Service Pack 2 and is fully updated.

Manually install PostgreSQL with the installer from PostgreSQL: The world's most advanced open source database (http://www.postgresql.org)
Turn on the secondary logon first.
Install SQL 8.4.8.
If that also fails use 8.2 which will always run: PostgreSQL: Choose a Mirror (http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/download/mirrors-ftp/binary/v8.2.21/win32/postgresql-8.2.21-1.zip)

Run a import from folder on your archive folder, default: C:/HMArchive

Same thing happened to me today both with HEM and HEM2. I was running them for months with no problems. Reinstalled PostgreSQL following your instructions and everything works now, I am reimporting hands atm.
