They are an indication of how many hands a player has seen since they took that action.

These statistics are not applicable to multitabling. If I play the same player in the multi-table play as hands on one of the tables will automatically reset the statistics on all the other tables. If a player has four tables and one hand does not play at all tables show that played for 4 hands.

I wrote this up as a bug report, ticket: HM-4820
Though I'm not sure if this can easily be fixed.
