Tagging players with icons (without auto rate)

Is there a plan to enable color coding or tagging players with icons without having the auto rate enabled? I miss being able to do this in HM1.

you just click the icon now and you can change it via dropdown

For now is impossible to set/click icon if it is not shown. Feature request written.
