I personally love the idea of an easy way to snychronise the databases on two computers but isn't storing the entire database on a cloud just being a bit pretentious, massive overkill and trying to be hip and leading the way in technology. Sure it will be handy for people who travel a lot , but for most people won't they just have a copy of HEM on their laptop , use it on the train/bus/lunchtime to profile opponents ,review hands, look for their own leaks, make notes etc and then pobably use their desktop and multiple monitor setup to actually play sessions when they get home at night.

Why can't the functionality of HM snyc be used over your home network or even save changes, hands, notes , hud configs etc onto/off a USB memory stick. you'd just need some basic info for when each computer last synced. Then HMsync just needs to save the data since the other computers last sync time to a data file for the other computer to sync to.

Backup and Restore accomplishes what you want. You just need to transfer the file to the other PC then restore it.

The reason sync doesn't work with home networks is most people know nothing about their network or how to troubleshoot home network problems, let alone getting their PC and Laptop talking to each other on their network. We would also take that support load on. Using our servers we can troubleshoot problems easier and make the syncing experience as painless as possible.

you could just as easily say the same for backing up and restoring to free cloud space such as A-drive or skydrive except you will be moving massive amounts of data slowly. Why not add the ability to HMsync to utilise a memory stick to synchronize changes to databases quickly rather than backing up and restoring entire databases. Uploading large databases to the cloud initially is going to take a fair bit of time with quite a heavy load on some users data allowance from their ISPs

Everything appears easy on the outside. HM Sync has been in development for over a year. It's hands only period. They have to detect what hands you have and what hands you don't have. HM Sync is not compatible with random file types. New Infrastructure would be required. It was discussed heavily and in the end Programming went with hands only. That's not to say it won't happen in the future, but right now and for the immediate future HMSync will be limited to hands only.

If its "hands only period" then syncing via memory stick is dead easy.

Hem2 could have a Sync folder with subfolders for each roomand memory stick would have two top level folders called pc1upload and pc2upload.each of those folders would have a folder for each poker room that a player uses. So you play on pc1 with paddypower. the hands get imported. When the hands then get archived they then get saved to HMarchive AND also copied to the paddypower subfolder in pc1's HM2 sync folder.

Then when you want to sync, Pc1 looks in the PC2upload folder on the memory stick ,imports any files and as its a sync, only saves the imported hand to HMarchive(saves an infinite loop of reimporting the same hand history). Then it moves all of the handhistories from pc1's sync folder to the pc1upload folder on the memory stick and deletes the hand histories from pc1's sync folder. You can then keep syncing pc1 and adding more hand histories until you then use the memory stick in pc2 and do a sync, which then imports all of those hands intoPC2 and uploads pc2's new hands onto the stick ready for uploading to pc1.

Doing it like this saves having to compare the two databases to look for missing hands. And would be easiest to start with a back up pc1 and restore to pc2 to initialize the computers

I've used HM1 over a network for the last 3 years. HM Sync is faster, way more reliable and easier to set up and keep up to date than any other method over a network.
