Question / Issue
How do I setup a new Hud Layout/Configuration?
Answer / Solution
Layout Configuration:
We can create multiple layouts and tell the HUD, that for example, we want Layout 1 for playing tournaments on any site, but use Layout 2 for playing cash games on Pokerstars, and we use Layout 3 for Full Tilt cash games. It's a common misconception that whatever layout you've chosen in the "Choose Configuration" drop-down list is the one that HM will use. This is NOT true and HM will automatically select the correct HUD for the applicable table depending on the settings you've ticked for each layout on the Use For: tab.
Can I clone a previous layout rather than starting from scratch?
If you have a previous layout you would like to clone rather than starting from scratch with the default then select that layout from "Choose Configuration" and then click New Config and it will clone that config.
Setting Up A New Layout
To best explain how this works we will take a standard situation where we play tournaments on both Pokerstars and Full Tilt with one HUD Config, and we setup a individual HUD Config for cash games at each site, to make best use of the space available around each player. We want to setup 2 different cash game layouts, 1 for Full Tilt and one for Pokerstars, and 1 tourney layout for any site.
So I'm going to setup 3 different Layouts for this first and see how that works:
1) I select New Config and name it tourneys. I like to use multiple panels and make my first panel a single row that I put directly over the players names at the table. I also assign color ranges to the Abb. Name stat according to the number of Big Blinds in their stack, to help spot short-stackers.
As you can see from the screen shot below i have 2 separate panels for this layout: 1 row on the main panel, and 3 rows on the 2nd panel, for this tourney layout. To enable Multiple Panels you must tick the check-box for that option on the Appearance tab. On the Use For: tab you want to untick all the boxes for cash games and only choose the tourney boxes. Also note that i have Any Site selected from the site drop-down list, since i will use the same tourney layout for all sites. In the next 2 scenarios we will have reason to specify what site the layout is specifically for.
2) Now i want to set another layout for cash games on Pokerstars, so i click on New Config and name it starscash. With this config I choose to use 3 panels, so it is easier to position the stats around the player name box and avatar circle. Panel #1 has 1 row, panel #2 has 2 rows, while the last panel has 3 rows of stats, as seen in the screen shot below. Now I specify Pokerstars as the site from the drop-down list on the Use For: tab, rather than Any Site, and I tick all the Limit and NL boxes.
3) Now I click on New Config to clone my Pokerstars cash games layout, and Since there is a bit more room on Full Tilt tables (I don't use the avatars there) I will only use 2 panels there. On the Use For: tab I choose Full Tilt instead of Stars from the Site drop-down list.
Now that we have our 3 custom HUD configs all setup properly, we need to set the original default HUD config to only work on a site which we do not currently play on. This is due to a possible problem that can arise if you do not properly configure the various HUD layouts on the Use For: tab. If you happen to select the same game type filters on the Use For: tab, for 2 different layouts, the HUD will not be sure which layout to use. If this happens it will revert to the default HUD config. e.g. For our 2nd and 3rd layout if we didnt specify one was for Pokerstars and the other was for Full Tilt, and instead choose Any Site for both, then we would have two different cash games layouts assigned to all cash game types, for Any Site. The HUD wouldn't know whether to display the 2 panel or 3 panel layout and would instead use the default single panel layout. This means it is very very important to make sure that the same filters are not set in different layouts, on the Use For: tabs for each of the various layouts.
Now if i open a Pokerstars cash game, a Full Tilt cash game, and a tourney on either site, the Hud will automatically display the proper HUD config for each table/game type. In this example the Pokerstars cash table will use the starscash layout with 3 separate panels, and the Full Tilt cash game table would use the ftpcash layout which only has 2 panels. The tourney table would use the tourneys HUD config, which has 2 separate panels, one of which has the Trny M stat. All of this is done automatically by the HUD, as long as you have properly configured the layouts on the Use For: tab.
You will also notice that the Hero Stats display significantly fewer stats than the opponent's do. This is done on the Player Preferences > Stats > Options for: area, by unchecking the Display for You box. You will need to do this for each stat, and New Panel or Line Feed you do not want to see. If I don't want to see the bottom row of stats, from a panel that has 2 rows, I need to turn that option off for the stats on the bottom row, as well as the Line Feed directly above them.
Cryptologic & iPoker Exceptions
Because of the way both these sites setup seating numbers between different stakes like HU,6Max and FR Hm cant recognize whether its HU, 6 max, or FR, and usually defaults to Full Ring. You can manually override the layout in this case using the Table Manager like in the screen shot below by right clicking and choosing your layout.
