Default HEM crashes when installing version 1.12.09

Hi- I recently updated to HEM1 version 1.12.09. When the database update runs HEM locks up, it has done this numerous times and I cannot get it to work so I have had to revert back to a prior version of HEM1. My PC is a bit old but it meets the min requirements as I understand them (1 GB RAM, 7200 RPM hard drive). It is a Pentium D 2.80 GHz running Windows XP with the latest service pack.

Any idea how to get around this? My database is not that big probably around 300K hands. Thanks for any help that you can give me!

Please update HM when you are not going to play. How long have you let the update run for? HM displaying "not responding" is normal while the update processes. If you let it run its course it should complete - this will take several minutes although it is difficult to say exactly how long this will be for your system/database.

OK I will try that. It says 'not responding' in the Windows task manager which usually means that the application is frozen. I will try just leaving it go then.

How did you do that? When I click the link it just gives me the current version? Does PokerStars still work with the older version? The HEM works with the older version but not with this latest update as it fails to connect to HEM Server/PostgreSQL. Is there a fix somewhere?

    Update to: http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloa..._27Mar2012.exe

The HM1 update will perform a big database update when you run it.
So ignore any "not responding" error but wait for the program to unfreeze and the database update to finish.
Make sure you have enough free diskspace.
If you have a 40 GB database--> the database update would like 10 GB of free space (to use temporarily)

Run dbcontrolpanel.exe and create a new database, if you get an error upon startup.

The connect to PostgreSQL is a different issue:
This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

    First try to reboot.

    If no help, try this:

    Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

    Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot.

If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely

I still had the download from several of the prior versions of HEM stored on my PC. So I just re-installed them.

I am an American so I do not know if the older versions work on Pokerstars or not.

I have since allowed the the update to run and installed the current version of HEM1. I had assumed before when it said 'not responding' that the program had crashed.
