Cant import

When i open the HM it at import section. usually where it says start import its say stop import. when i click it goes to stopping and nothing happens then and just keeps saying that. I cant create new database or export hands cos says i cant do it while importing. and i dont have all my hands on disk so like to keep them. help appreciated
