    Default Failed to establish connection 127.0.0.1

    I used HEM this morning and it was fine. shut my computer down and reopened it a few hours later and got the error above in the subject line.

    I tried following the sticky from Morny,Fix for PostgreSQL cannot start error 127.0.0.1 about this problem and it didn't fix the issue.

    When I open task manager, under services, it says postgresql8.3 is STOPPED. I right click and try to 'start service' and get the following error: The operation could not be completed. An instance of the service is already running"

    There is no other instance of this running under 'services' or 'processes'

    I've rebooted many times now and still nothing happens.

    Database control panel says: A connection could not be made. would u like to have HEM attempt to start the service? When I type yes. it says: 'Sorry HEM could not start the service.

    What do I do next to get this to work?

    --> search the file postmaster.pid and delete it
    --> restart the computer
    --> have fun.

    This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

    First try to reboot.

    If no help, try this:

    Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

    Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

    If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot.

    If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely
