Default Postgre SQL error 1053 when starting

Hi guys. I asm having problems starting my HEM. Each time I try and start the postgre SQL does not start. I have tried to force start in the services menu but when I do get the error above.

.

If I reinstall postgre SQL or install the new version 8.4, will I loose all the data in my current HEM database.

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

Please update to the latest beta - http://rvgsoftware.fileburst.com/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe, and dbcontrolpanel.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe, and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afm...aspx?faqid=171

First try to delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it, and reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afm....aspx?faqid=34
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afm...aspx?faqid=177
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands.

ive gone through all of these steps on windows 7 and none of it has worked with 8.4.

i uninstalled 8.4 to try with 8.3 and whaen i come to install it comes up with an error reading:
"The 'Seconday Logon' service is not running. This service is required for the installer to initialise the databse. Please start this serbice and try again."

I have no clue now....teamviewer session?!

The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Right-Click > Properties > Startup > Automatic should insure it works in the future also.

Try clicking Ok and getting to the HEM DB Control Panel. That is probably just a warning because the config file doesnt match now, but it could also be because the expected DB is truly gone.

You uninstalled 8.4 and installed 8.3? Or you had 8.3? I am a bit confused by this thread.

Your 'database' is contained in your \postgresql\8.x\data folder. If you didnt delete that you should still have it. When reinstalling 8.3 and trying to use those files, you have to make sure to deselect the [ ] Initialize DB Cluster option.

Hi Fozzy

I have tried all the above steps and only want to reinstall new database and postgreSQL as a last resort.
Can we try a teamviewer session as last resort before reinstalling postgreSQL

Sure, but I really dont have any other tricks in my bag. I will just be trying some of those same things most likely.

Please email me at fozzy@holdemmanager.net with a link to this thread, and your forum name, so we can schedule a Teamviewer session. Download the Teamviewer Quick Support Module - http://rvgsoftware.fileburst.com/TeamViewerQS.exe. Please let me know what time zone you are in and what time/days are convenient for you.
