Rule 1: never touch a running postgresql installation
Rule 2: there is no upgrade procedure for existing postgresql databases

Please check your filesystem, your 8.4 data folder should be somewhere under c:\program files\postgresql\8.4\data. If its renamed to data.bak change it back to data.
Uninstall postgres 9.1 and reinstall 8.4 again following this guide: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...g+Old+Database

Install 9.1 to a different port--> reimport your hands.

If you uninstalled 8.4, it doesn't matter if 9.1 is using the same port.
But if you plan to install both (and run both simultaneously), make sure each has its own port.
