we are getting close to a release but we have an issue with some people getting a freeze while using the DB updater. The DB Updater process is explained in detail here: http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/ques...Update+Utility

This is pretty isolated and so we need the help of the HM community to get some more details and isolate the problem, we have already identified and fixed a couple of issues with success but need some more help as we think there is still one more freeze issue out there.

NB: This is Beta Release still undergoing testing
Its important to Note that you may get a freeze during this update, its also important to note that were still undergoing intensive internal testing so there is a higher chance of us missing bugs so although we greatly appreciate any feedback if your unsure i do advise wait until we have a stable release. This version also may result it large log files.

Setting up postgreSQL logging
If you would like to offer feedback on the database issue please see instructions below:
The first thing you need to do is to open up your postgresql.conf file with notepad (choose run as admin)
You will find the file in your PostgreSQL/data folder, the most common place youll find the PostgreSQL folder.
C:\postgreSQL\data or C:\Program Files/PostgreSQL\8.x\data

Look for this entry in the file:

#log_statement = 'none' # none, ddl, mod, all

Notice 2 things the # preceding the line basically tells the program to ignore it so we must remove that and we need to change 'none' to all so the final result should be

log_statement = 'all' # none, ddl, mod, all

Also double check you have this set to on in the same file, should be on by default.
logging_collector = ON

Once you do that please save the file and proceed with testing. I you want to turn of logging when your finished testing just put the # back and it will stop logging.

Feedback
If you do encounter a freeze please email paul.morny@gmail.com, the files are probably too large to email so ill be happy to login for a quick teamviewer session to gather the information we need. The logs will be created in the PostgreSQL/data/pg_log folder

Please also let us know if you previously had issues on other internals and this one worked as we did solve most of the previous issues.

What if it freezes, what will i do:
You should have no issues at all if you get a freeze and follow these instructions. If it freezes force the holdemmanager.exe to close via the task manager > processes TAB. Do allow a reasonable period of time for the operation to complete especially at the end when it copies over NC files and settings. Once you kill it you should be left with a database with _updated at the end of it, this is a copy of the original it was making changes to. You can discard this and your original database will be entact but not updated.

If it was sucessful you should have a database with _obsolete at the end, this is your original database renamed and the updated database is renamed as your original. Once your happy with the new database that everything was updated and transferred over you can delete the _obsolete one if you wish.

Feedback on results after reimport
Were also looking for any feedback on your results to make sure they all came over correctly, you may notice some difference because we fixed a lot of hand history issues so you may have a bunch more hands.

Has the issue I reported on the last release about the Merge hands being converted improperly during the update been resolved in this new beta? If not, there is no point in me trying this.

I really hope you will not issue this as a formal release until this is resolved or else i will be forced to stay on an older buggier version of HEM2 since the act of doing this update corrupts my database. I think it is time we made this Merge issue that has been identifed since late last year a top priority.

Yes this issue is resolved, as i mentioned this is still undergoing testing and i only recommend using this for providing feedback, it was valuable feedback like yours that ensured a bug like this didn't fall through the cracks so everyones feedback is very valuable but i do suggest holding on for the stable release if you have reservations.

I should probably revise that to say "Any builds before 7145 which havent already ran the updater." The updater code hasnt changed since we first released it so if it was successful at one point there is no need to run it again. The only issues we have been happening is a very isolated freeze which is making it difficult to reproduce within the team because it probably happens 1 in 100 times

Can you post screenshots of the info in the DB control Panel so i can review, did you get a message saying update successful and is there another database with _obsolete after it, can you post screenshots of both the original database and obsolete database via a screenshot of the DB info window

Well, I purged 2 million hands of a database long ago.
And its reimporting all of them again (about 400000).
So my suspicious were right-> previous versions do not purge hands from the database. . Even they are not reported.
