HM can't validate license after upgrading to win8.1

Installed windows 8.1 today, which broke holdem manager. Launching the program (as an administrator, either in compatibility mode with previous generations or not) brings up a prompt that the program must be authorized by an administrator. Clicking either authorize or cancel brings up the page that says a valid licence can not be found.

I actually originally had HM1 but decided when it wasn't working I may as well upgrade to HM2. So I bought the upgrade, installed HM2 and can't get that to work. Same symptoms. I have made sure this program is exempted in the windows firewall. The error message is below:

Hi,

I have same problem when I upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Customer Preview Edition

I tried to reinstrall HM2 by this Thread http://forums.holdemmanager.com/gene...e-license.html , however it didn't work well.

Hi,

Please do all steps carefully and exactly.

Enable the option to see Hidden Files and Disable “Hide protected operating system files”: How to see hidden files in Windows

1) Make sure your PC name is in English and "in one word" - EN letters and\or digits only used. Control panel - system. If you change it - windows will ask reboot - click later as you will be doing it at a later stage.

2) Go to Control panes - user accounts and create new windows user (again - EN letters only) and give him admin rights.

3) Uninstall every antivirus \ firewall you have. Simple disabling them not helps. This will also ask reboot - you will do it Later, in (8)

4) Uninstall HM2 in the same way.

5) Now go to this hidden folder
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\HoldemManager\
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\HoldemManager
and delete all files and subfolders there - excluding Database subfolder (it should remain alone)

6) Now Delete this file C:\ProgramData\XHEO INC\SharedLicenses\ Holdem Manager 2.lic
(XP path = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\AppData\XHEO INC\SharedLicenses\ Holdem Manager 2.lic)

7) Now reboot PC under this new user created in (2)

8) install hm2 and register it

9) reboot PC back to old user

10) Now you can install security software back

Same problem here, and i think this bug affects most of the users sooner or later. I hope we get a fix soon, because the solution described above is way too much work, and i loose all my settings. Your DRM needs to be reconsidered, since a common sofware update caused an unfixable situation.

This is an issue with your windows user account. Using spaces, non-EN/cyrillic characters causes problems with a lot of programs reading and writing to folders. It can also point to a corrupted windows user.

- If your windows user name has any unique 'cyrillic characters' you may need to create a new windows user with a single EN-US name without any special characters.
- Uninstall HM2 (and HM1 if it is installed)
- Create a new windows user in the Control Panel > User Accounts. Make sure it is an Administrator account and has no unique characters in the name (only characters from EN Alphabet)
- Reboot the PC
- Log in to the new windows user account

- Now Delete C:\ProgramData\XHEO INC\SharedLicenses\ Holdem Manager 2.lic (XP Users can find the file at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\AppData\XHEO INC\SharedLicenses\ Holdem Manager 2.lic)*
- Reinstall HM2 - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloa...er_2_Setup.exe
- and try to register again.
- If that works, you can reboot, log in to your normal user, and test to make sure everything works before you delete the temporary user.

Many users have their windows account attached to their Microsoft e-mail, and it is not possible to change to one word as you can only change it on the Microsoft website and you must enter first and last name in the form, it cannot be just re-named. A new user has to be made, software re-installed and lose a bunch of settings if programs were not installed for every user. I thankfully had my drive cloned so I could go back to 8.0 but just a heads up for you guys, maybe there is a registry key you guys know about...
